Props in Final Flashback - Laura

After doing my research on the White Ribbon Campaign, I went to a place where they promote the campaign and so I picked up a few leaflets which I thought might help us. I picked up different ones based on differeent genders and relationships. For example I found one that had information about homosexual relationships, however the ones that are most useful to us is the general one about domestic violence, and the one that specifically affects men. Here are some pictures of them.

These helped as they gave us lots of information about domestic abuse, for example the different types of abuse that are around, and also interestingly it told us the reasons why many people stay in abusive relationships. However a more important reason is that it gave us lots of numbers for helplines. In our final flashback, we see Sam has finally had enough and he finally decides he needs to try and escape from this abusive relationship. Initially we were going to have him call a helpine, for two reasons. Firstly we wanted to use an audiobleed of the sound of the phone merging with the sound of a heart monitor when Sam is in hospital. Seconly, we thought that helplines keep people anonymous, which would conform to the stereoptye that men feel to masculine to admit they are being abused by a woman. This is where the leaflets would come in as props, as in one of them there is a small purple card containing a helpline number. We were going to put this in a newspaper, or some other type of prop, so that it could either fall out, or Sam could somehow find it. However before filming we decided this may seem a bit cliched, so we needed to rethink. With our ideas, some audience feedback, and feedback from our teachers we decided Sam could ring his friend, Laura, who is in one of the previous flashbacks. She is an old friend who Sam trusts, so we thought that this gave out a good message. However these helpline numbers may still be used, as we may end up using a plug at the end of the film for them, like from James's research for Coronation Street.
